Gujarat Guardian Limited (GGL), the joint venture between Guardian Industries and Modi Rubber Limited, has officially begun construction on a second float glass line and a new wet coating facility at its Ankleshwar manufacturing site in Gujarat, India.

The expansion, scheduled for completion by mid-2028 (subject to project execution timelines), represents a significant capacity and technology upgrade aimed at meeting accelerating demand for architectural and value-added glass across India’s construction and infrastructure sectors.

The new air-fuel fired float line will add 1,000 metric tons per day of production capacity. It is designed to manufacture a broader portfolio of float glass, including multiple thickness ranges and large-format sheets intended for high-performance façade systems. The upgraded line is also expected to improve glass yield efficiency, reducing wastage during downstream processing for processors and façade contractors.

In parallel, GGL will install a wet coater with an annual capacity of 72,000 metric tons. The facility will support advanced mirror and coated glass production, incorporating both single and double paint coating technology. The system will be fully automated, including robotic handling, automated packing lines, and integrated logistics infrastructure to improve throughput consistency and reduce manual variation in finishing quality.

Once operational, the Ankleshwar site will function as a fully integrated production hub for float glass, mirror products, and value-added coated solutions. The consolidation of multiple production stages in one location is expected to enhance supply chain reliability and shorten lead times for customers across India.

Speaking on the development, Guus Boekhoudt, Executive Vice President of Guardian Glass, emphasized that the investment combines capacity expansion with process modernization, strengthening local supply security while supporting advanced façade and glazing applications.

The facility will also produce GGL’s established product lines, including MODIGUARD, SunGuard, ClimaGuard, and ShowerGuard, reinforcing its position in India’s premium architectural glass market.

Kazakhstan is embarking on one of the most ambitious urban development projects in Central Asia with the launch of Alatau City – a brand‑new metropolis being built from scratch 47 kilometers north of Almaty. The planned city aims to rival major global urban centers, with a footprint larger than Singapore and Seoul, covering 88,000 hectares on the steppe.

Designed to be a hub of innovation, commerce, and lifestyle, Alatau City targets a population of 2 million residents by 2050, with an additional 4 million tourists annually. Planners expect the city to generate 1 million jobs and attract $20 billion in investment across sectors including technology, finance, logistics, tourism, and advanced manufacturing.

Architectural vision for the city’s skyline comes from leading global firms with experience designing world‑renowned skyscrapers such as Burj Khalifa in Dubai and One World Trade Center in New York. The signature centerpiece will be a soaring 272‑meter main tower, which will define Alatau’s urban identity.

Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2026, marking the start of phased development across residential, commercial, and public infrastructure zones. In parallel, innovative transport solutions are being tested: air taxis connecting Almaty with Alatau are underway this year, with plans for public operations within 2–3 years. These electric vertical take‑off and landing vehicles are expected to cut travel time to just 10–15 minutes.

Saint-Gobain has commenced construction on two major additions to its Oragadam manufacturing site in Chennai: a seventh float glass line and a fifth mineral wool insulation line. This expansion underscores the company’s strategy to strengthen local production and meet the growing demand in India’s construction industry.

The new float glass facility, with a production capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day, will significantly boost supply for high-performance glass products. Designed with sustainability at its core, the plant will feature energy-efficient systems, reduced environmental impact, and advanced digital technologies to ensure operational precision and consistent quality.

In parallel, Saint-Gobain is establishing its largest mineral wool insulation plant in the Asia-Pacific region, with an annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes. This near net-zero carbon facility will meet India’s increasing demand for energy-efficient building insulation, integrating the latest engineering advancements and digital innovations for superior thermal and acoustic performance.

These investments follow the acquisitions of Rockwool India (Rockinsul) and UP Twiga (Twigainsul), strengthening Saint-Gobain’s leadership in the insulation segment. According to Sreedhar N., Senior Vice-President and CEO – Asia Pacific and India, the projects combine cutting-edge Industry 4.0 capabilities with a focus on sustainability, enabling the delivery of advanced, market-tailored solutions.

Once completed, the Oragadam complex will be Saint-Gobain’s largest multi-business manufacturing hub globally, producing float glass, mineral wool insulation, gypsum plasterboards, plasters, and acoustic ceilings, reaffirming the company’s role as a global leader in sustainable construction.
