The Hydrogen Innovation Initiative (HII) has made an exciting announcement with Glass Futures stepping in as its latest strategic partner.

This collaboration is set to bring a wave of experience and expertise from the foundational industry to the forefront of the programme.

Under the umbrella of Innovate UK, the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative stands as a dynamic consortium comprising industry players, governmental bodies, and academia. Together, they are forging the path towards establishing an investible, internationally competitive hydrogen technology and services sector within the UK. The inclusion of Glass Futures in this partnership further enriches the pool of knowledge and skill that HII offers to the burgeoning hydrogen economy.

Dr. Katy Milne, the Programme Director for the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative, expressed her enthusiasm about the new alliance, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Glass Futures as our newest strategic partner. Having been integral to our Industrial Advisory Board from the beginning, they bring a wealth of expertise that aligns perfectly with our vision of empowering the UK technology to lead the global hydrogen economy, thereby propelling UK industry into a net-zero powerhouse.”

Glass Futures is at the forefront of pioneering the elimination of carbon emissions from energy-intensive industries. This not-for-profit entity bridges the gap between the global glass industry and academia, championing disruptive technologies aimed at decarbonizing the glass and foundational industries.

Through concerted efforts over the past four years, Glass Futures, in collaboration with its members and partners, has conducted extensive research into groundbreaking solutions for reducing carbon emissions in energy-intensive industries.

Rob Ireson, the Innovation and Partnerships Manager at Glass Futures, highlighted the opportunity to collaborate closely with esteemed partners in the consortium. He emphasized the importance of sharing knowledge and innovative solutions across industries, fostering a collaborative environment for driving impactful change.

As the UK transitions towards a low carbon future, the alignment between Glass Futures and HII becomes even more critical. Both sectors face similar challenges in shifting from fossil fuels to low-carbon hydrogen fuels for operations. By pooling their resources and knowledge, these sectors can jointly develop solutions to overcome these hurdles, contributing significantly to the reduction of carbon emissions.

The recent launch of the UK Hydrogen Innovation Opportunity report by the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative signifies a milestone in outlining the scale and potential of the hydrogen technology market in the UK. The report, along with four supporting documents, stems from extensive analysis and engagement with numerous organizations, industry associations, and the HII Industrial Advisory Board.

The Hydrogen Innovation Initiative stands as a beacon of collaboration, uniting industry, government, and academia to propel the UK towards a globally competitive hydrogen technology and services sector. With an aim to position UK technology as a driving force in the global hydrogen economy and transform the national industry into a net-zero powerhouse, HII and its partners are paving the way for a sustainable future.
