Şişecam, who has emphasized his attention in the Balkan market, is spearheading a groundbreaking initiative: the “Plant of the Future” platform.
Launched at Glasstec 2024, this ambitious project represents a significant step towards a more digitalized, sustainable, and collaborative future for glass manufacturing.
The platform leverages Şişecam’s nearly 90 years of experience, combining it with the expertise of its extensive network of suppliers and technology providers. Operating on an open innovation model, the “Plant of the Future” actively solicits innovative ideas, transforming them into tangible solutions that benefit the entire industry. This collaborative approach, as emphasized by Şişecam CEO Görkem Elverici, recognizes the need for collective action in navigating the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly evolving landscape.
Elverici highlights the importance of collaboration, stating that “in order to envision, design, discover, innovate and implement the solutions of the future, we must move forward together.” He envisions a future where the platform’s success translates into an “as-a-service” model, further enhancing the accessibility and impact of innovative solutions within the glass industry and beyond. This vision extends beyond internal optimization; Şişecam aims to create an ecosystem where stakeholders collaborate at every stage – from initial concept to implementation and growth.
The platform’s initial focus will be on optimizing glass packaging and flat glass production processes. Şişecam will pilot submitted projects at suitable facilities, rapidly scaling up successful solutions across its global production network. The ultimate goal is not just internal efficiency gains but the advancement of the entire glass industry, empowering all stakeholders through shared knowledge and innovation. This commitment extends beyond glass, with Şişecam intending to leverage this “as-a-service” model in other sectors, starting with its soda ash production.
Şişecam’s “Plant of the Future” is more than just a technological upgrade; it’s a strategic vision for the future of the glass industry, built on a foundation of collaboration, sustainability, and a commitment to shared progress. This initiative showcases a proactive approach to addressing industry challenges and sets a compelling example for other sectors seeking innovative solutions through collaborative partnerships.
