Novelis has successfully upgraded three melting furnaces at its Voerde, Germany plant, leveraging regenerative technology from Fives to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. The project utilized Fives’ North American TwinBed II burners, recognized for their robust design, low emissions, and high energy efficiency.
Managed end-to-end by Fives’ North American Combustion teams based in Bilbao, Spain, the project spanned engineering, design, and commissioning. The final furnace commissioning resulted in a remarkable reduction of more than 40% in the plant’s carbon footprint, measured by gas consumption compared to mid‑2023 levels.
Emilio Braghi, Executive Vice President and President of Novelis Europe, emphasized the company’s ambitious 2030 goals to advance circularity and decarbonisation. He said:
The upgrade of our three melting furnaces represents a practical advancement in reducing our environmental footprint and improving operational efficiency.
Pablo Arribalzaga, Managing Director for Europe at Fives North American Combustion, highlighted the long-standing collaboration between the companies. “We are proud to support Novelis’ sustainability journey with high-performance, low-emission combustion solutions tailored to their operations,” he added.
The successful project underscores the strength of the Novelis-Fives partnership, which has evolved over nearly two decades through shared commitment to sustainable and efficient industrial solutions.
