A contractor has died following a vehicle-related incident at Saverglass’ glass manufacturing facility near Guadalajara, Mexico, in July 2026.
The fatality was disclosed by Orora, the Australian packaging group that owns Saverglass, in its full-year financial results. Orora stated that a “vehicle-related incident” at its Mexico Glass site resulted in the “tragic fatality” of a contractor. The company has not publicly released further details about the worker, the vehicle involved or the precise circumstances of the incident.
The death has renewed attention on the importance of maintaining strict safety controls around vehicle movements at large manufacturing facilities. While the circumstances of this particular incident have not been disclosed, safety specialists commonly stress the importance of clearly separating pedestrians from vehicles, maintaining designated traffic routes and ensuring that drivers and contractors understand site-specific procedures.
Visibility is another critical consideration. Clearly marked pedestrian areas, controlled crossing points, adequate lighting, speed restrictions and appropriate reversing procedures can help reduce the potential for serious incidents. Regular inspections of vehicles and equipment are also important, particularly in busy production and loading areas.
