Speira has completed an €11 million investment in four aluminium recycling furnaces across its Grevenbroich and Töging facilities in Germany, strengthening its capacity to recover aluminium from complex scrap and production by-products.
The German-Norwegian aluminium producer has installed and commissioned two tilting rotary furnaces at each site, replacing older equipment with upgraded technology designed to improve production efficiency, occupational safety and environmental performance.
The furnaces process aluminium scrap and dross, including lower-grade materials containing impurities that require specialised recycling processes. According to Speira, the new installations enable the recovery of aluminium quantities that were previously lost from material flows.
The investment covers the four furnaces, extraction hoods, thermal after-combustion systems, pipework and supporting infrastructure. Improvements to equipment accessibility simplify maintenance, while the new configuration allows molten metal to be cast with furnace doors closed, improving workplace safety.
The installations also feature upgraded burner technology, which increases productivity and reduces CO₂ emissions. They are hydrogen-ready, allowing hydrogen to be used as an alternative fuel in the future.
The first furnace entered production in Grevenbroich in June 2025, followed by Töging in October 2025. The remaining units started operation in May and November 2026, completing the investment programme.
