The Cepelia Pavilion, located on Marszałkowska Street in Warsaw, has undergone a meticulous revitalization, merging 1960s modernist heritage with contemporary technologies. Designed in 1966 by Zygmunt Stępiński, its iconic glass-walled façade featured turquoise ceramic tiles decorated by Stanisław Kucharski, celebrating Polish folk art.
Over decades, the building deteriorated and hosted unsympathetic modifications, including a nightclub. In 2024, architect Andrzej M. Chołdzyński led the restoration, preserving its original geometric form while modernizing functionality.
The project employed Aluprof MB-SR50N and MB-86 doors and windows along with Aluprof MB-SC façade systems, improving thermal insulation, durability, and comfort.
During renovation, original neon elements, including the rooster motif, were uncovered and preserved for historical documentation. On December 13, 2024, the pavilion reopened as a flagship Empik store, demonstrating how modern technologies can enhance architectural heritage, creating a bridge between Warsaw’s past and contemporary urban life.
