Pyroguard, a global leader in fire safety glazing, has launched Balustrades Evo, a pioneering glass range that combines A2 fire-rated performance with lighter weight and reduced carbon impact. Developed in collaboration with balustrade system specialist Q-railing, this is the first approved fire-rated balustrade solution of its kind to reach the market.
The Balustrades Evo range is designed to respond to increasing demand for sustainable, high-performance balustrade glazing. By halving the interlayer thickness from 3 mm to 1.5 mm, the glass now mirrors standard laminate sizes, making it easier to integrate into existing systems. Despite being thinner, it delivers exceptional line load strength, offering 13.5 mm, 17.5 mm, 21.5 mm and 25.5 mm thicknesses suitable for 1.5 kN/m loads. This design provides up to a 6% weight reduction and a 7.5% improvement in embodied carbon.
The range also improves light transmission compared to existing Pyroguard Balustrades, ensuring both safety and aesthetics. Crucially, it allows manufacturers to continue using their current stock profiles and installation methods, reducing project costs.
Complying with the latest fire safety requirements for balconies, Pyroguard’s Balustrades Evo sets a new benchmark in fire-rated glazing by combining performance, cost efficiency, and sustainability.
