Saint-Gobain Glass has been shortlisted in two G25 Awards categories, recognising its industry-leading commitment to sustainability and circularity in flat glass manufacturing.
The company’s flagship Glass Forever programme, launched in 2001, has now recovered one million tonnes of end-of-life flat glass. This achievement avoids 1.2 million tonnes of virgin raw materials and prevents 700,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. Recovered glass is remanufactured at Saint-Gobain’s Eggborough facility into high-performance products such as ORAÉ® , the world’s first low-carbon flat glass with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), containing 64% recycled content, produced using 100% renewable electricity, and reducing the carbon footprint by 42% compared to standard float glass.
The 30 Duke Street redevelopment in London, the UK’s first commercial renovation applying circular glass recycling, has also been shortlisted. Saint-Gobain Glass enabled recovery of glazing from two outdated buildings, remanufactured into Oraé Cool-Lite SKN 183 (II) for the new eight-storey office façade, designed by Make Architects for Great Portland Estates with Mace as main contractor.
Over 100 partners support Glass Forever across the UK, including Morley Glass & Glazing, Padiham Glass, and Veka Recycling, with cullet crushing technology deployed onsite and logistics optimised to return old glass in empty in-loaders, reducing transport emissions while keeping glass in the production cycle.
