At Brussels’ Gare Maritime (Tour & Taxis), Renson was the only manufacturer able to meet Extensa’s demand for windproof sun protection across the building’s vast windows. Preserving the original structure with steel supports every 12 metres, the challenge was to fully cover these equally wide panes.
A total of 1,750 m² of Renson fabric now spans the 280 m façade. Installing custom Fixscreens measuring 36 m² at 13 metres high was a true engineering feat.
“Challenges like this inspire us to co-create,” says Renson. “Our screens usually max out at 22 m², but here both the fabric and boxes were custom-made. Thanks to a special motor and specific fabrics, they can withstand higher wind loads.”
This project showcases how innovation and customization can push the limits of design while respecting architectural heritage.
