FLACHGLAS Wernberg Upgrades Second Laminating Line with Glaston ProL

FLACHGLAS Wernberg modernizes second laminating line

FLACHGLAS Gruppe has completed the modernisation of a second laminating line at its Wernberg, Germany facility, this time equipped with Glaston’s ProL system featuring patented Convection Control. This follows a similar upgrade in January 2024, which already delivered notable improvements in energy efficiency, product quality, and operational ease.

The new line handles complex sandwich structures up to 100 mm thick, including advanced interlayers such as SentryGlas® and sound-insulating films. Traditionally, these laminates required time-consuming manual preparation or vacuum bagging before autoclaving. With Convection Control, uniform heating is achieved across the entire laminate by precisely adjusting airflow and temperature based on glass position. This eliminates the need for individual heating profiles, reduces film waste, cuts manual labor, and removes human error as a risk factor.

The upgrade also frees up autoclave capacity previously taken by packaged glass sandwiches, enabling higher throughput. During GPD 2025 in Tampere, Finland, visitors witnessed an 83 mm thick, 2,000 × 2,500 mm laminate produced in a single pass, without any special recipe.

Martin Geiss, Technical Manager at FLACHGLAS Wernberg, highlights the energy savings and consistent quality as key benefits, positioning the company to deliver advanced, specially refined glass products while supporting sustainability targets. A new tempering furnace is planned for early 2026 to further enhance efficiency and capacity.
