United Plate Glass (UPG) has strengthened its production capabilities with the installation of Glaston’s FC Series X furnace combined with the Vortex Pro convection control system. Headquartered in Butler, Pennsylvania, with additional sites in Maryland and North Carolina, UPG supplies architectural glass for both residential and commercial applications.
The investment reflects a long-standing partnership between UPG and Glaston, dating back to 1999. Over the years, UPG has purchased ten Glaston lines, including eight furnaces currently in operation. The new FC Series X with Vortex Pro replaces a 2011 furnace at the Butler facility and is already proving to be a game changer.
According to Director of Operations Cory Brown, Vortex Pro has increased load size and bed utilization by 21%, allowing more mixed orders to be processed without compromising quality. The furnace produces exceptionally flat glass with minimal distortion, boosting both efficiency and customer satisfaction.
For the glass processing industry, UPG’s move highlights a growing trend: investing in advanced tempering technologies that deliver higher productivity, energy savings, and superior quality.
