SGT Annual Conference 2025 to Spotlight Glass Sustainability

Society of Glass Technology (SGT) has unveiled the programme for its 2025 Annual Conference, set to take place from 1–3 September at Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge, UK. The event will bring together leading figures from industry and academia to address pressing issues in glass sustainability, alongside discussions on science, heritage, and history.

Sustainability will take centre stage, beginning on Day One with the prestigious N. L. Varshneya Memorial Lecture, delivered by Gabrielle Gaustad of Alfred University, on “Glass sustainability: challenges and opportunities at end of life.” Industry experts including Gareth Morris (Saint-Gobain), Jörn Besinger (Schott), Giorgio di Lascio (K2-CO2), and Stuart Hakes (F.I.C. UK) will explore topics such as recycling, CO₂ capture systems, and the evolution of glass production.

Day Two will feature insights from pioneering projects in decarbonisation and circularity, with presentations by Bridget Stewart (Glass Futures), Niels Schreuder (AGC), Owen McGann (Glass Technology Services), and Graeme DeBrincat (ARUP). The day will conclude with a banquet dinner at Magdalene College, Cambridge.

The final day will highlight glass heritage and education through the “Unlocking the mysteries of glass” course, led by former SGT President Professor Arun Varshneya.
