Artery BC Vilnius: ML System BIPV Powers Icon

Vilnius, Lithuania’s vibrant capital, has a new architectural landmark. The Artery Business Center, a striking design born from the collaboration of the internationally acclaimed Studio Libeskind and local firm Archinova, stands as a testament to modern architectural prowess.

We at ML System are incredibly proud to have played a crucial role in this iconic project, supplying and installing advanced Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions on its roof. This collaboration perfectly embodies the fusion of sustainable construction principles with sophisticated aesthetic demands.

The roof of the lower atrium, often referred to as the building’s “fifth facade” due to its visibility from surrounding towers, presented a unique opportunity to integrate renewable energy generation seamlessly. On this prominent surface, we designed and implemented a 55.3 kWp photovoltaic installation. This system is projected to generate an impressive 36 MWh of clean energy annually, making a significant contribution to reducing the building’s operational carbon footprint and promoting a greener urban environment.

The project involved the delivery of 146 high-performance BIPV modules, covering a substantial area of 498 square meters. A key challenge, and one we embraced with enthusiasm, was the integration of the photovoltaic technology without compromising the architect’s distinctive vision. This included the meticulous fabrication of 35 modules in custom triangular and trapezoidal shapes, specifically designed to fit the intricate roof geometry conceived by Daniel Libeskind. Furthermore, the modules were produced in individually matched colours, ensuring a harmonious blend with the building’s overall aesthetic and maintaining the integrity of the design.

Artery Business Center

This project at the Artery Business Center marks our first significant installation in Lithuania, and it stands as a spectacular demonstration of the capabilities and versatility of our BIPV technology. It highlights our ability to overcome complex technical and aesthetic challenges, delivering solutions that are both functionally efficient and visually appealing.

We detail the intricate process of matching the colour and unique shapes of the BIPV modules to Daniel Libeskind’s precise architectural vision, a testament to our engineering and manufacturing expertise. Furthermore, the article explores the tangible benefits of utilizing our BIPV technology, not only in terms of clean energy generation but also in contributing to the building’s sustainability credentials and enhancing its overall value.

The Artery Business Center serves as a powerful example of how BIPV can be integrated into even the most ambitious and aesthetically driven architectural projects, proving that sustainability and iconic design can go hand in hand. We are thrilled to have contributed to this remarkable building and look forward to more opportunities to power the future with innovative BIPV solutions.
