OKALUX: The Redesign of Walldorf’s Protestant Church Portal

Featuring OKA X glass with embedded metal text passages, the new design blends history, light, and faith, allowing more daylight inside while honoring the church’s spiritual heritage.

The Protestant church in Walldorf, a neo-Gothic sandstone building from the 19th century, has undergone a comprehensive restoration. A major focus was the redesign of the central entrance portal: the aim was to create an artistically designed church door that not only honors the historical significance of the building, but also allows more daylight into the church interior.

The new portal features metal text passages from two fundamental confessions of the Lutheran-Reformed tradition, which were embedded in the space between the panes of the door.

OKA X with a metal relief insert was used here – a highly customizable glass solution that enables unique forms of artistic expression within the insulating glass unit.
